Shamrock Rovers' Michael Noonan last night became the youngest-ever scorer in European club competitions but still had to return to the classroom this morning
The Irish Shamrock Rovers surprisingly beat the Norwegian Molde on the road in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League playoffs 1-0, with an unexpected name becoming their hero. Namely, their gem Michael Noonan, aged 16 years and 197 days, netted a 57th-minute winner and thus became the youngest-ever scorer in European club competitions.
And although his older teammates probably stayed up all night celebrating Shamrock's maiden victory in a European competition knockout phase, young Noonan had to go to bed early. The reason - today is a school day! His mother, Sandie, revealed it in this morning's post on X, as she published the photo of her son with a backpack leaving home for school with the caption, "And back to school he goes..."

The fact that there are more and more players of such young age, like Barcelona's Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, and the aforementioned Noonan, among others, is undoubtedly positive. Yet, it's nice to see that despite their immense talent and inevitable professional football careers that await them, school is still a priority.
