What would dad and grandpa say?! The youngest Maldini on AC Milan's rivals' radar

The grandad, Cesare, spent twelve years at San Siro (1954-1966) and eight more as a manager; the father, Paolo, dedicated his entire career to the Rossoneri, spending 25 years with the senior squad and six in the youth categories. However, the youngest offshoot of the Maldini family, Daniel, could break the long-established tradition!

Namely, he initially followed in his grandfather and father's footsteps, as he was AC Milan's "student" for ten years, from the age of nine. In 2020, he was added to the first team but made only 24 appearances in four seasons, as he spent most of the time on loans at Spezia, Empoli, and finally Monza. In July, he permanently moved to Stadio Brianteo, signing a two-year deal with Biancorossi.

Last season, Daniel netted four times in 11 games and became a regular starter this season. His improvement caught the eye of Italy boss Luciano Spalletti, who called the 23-year-old up for the national team. He will have a chance to debut against Israel on Monday and thus continue the family's international tradition.

However, when it comes to AC Milan, a "betrayal" could happen given that Daniel is on Inter Milan and Juventus' radars. According to Tuttosport, the Nerazzurri's representatives attended Monza's duel against Roma only to watch the midfielder live. In addition, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Old Lady is keen on going for Daniel in the January transfer window if Monza are willing to sell him.

Yet, the Rossoneri found a way to remain involved in Daniel's future, incorporating an interesting clause in the deal with the Biancorossi. Apart from getting 50% from the next transfer, AC Milan have the option of matching any offer that Monza receive for the 23-year-old. Therefore, the tradition could be broken, but only if the club from San Siro allows it.
