Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first footballer in history to score 900 career goals in official games.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner reached the milestone on Thursday night by scoring for Portugal in their Nations League 2-1 win over Croatia on Thursday night in Lisbon.

Ronaldo met Nuno Mendes' left-sided cross on the edge of the six-yard box to volley home the landmark goal for 2-0 in the 34th minute.

He celebrated it ecstatically as he put his head in his hands and sank to his knees in celebration. It was the 131st goal of his international career, with the other 769 coming at club level.

Cristiano is 58 goals ahead of Lionel Messi, on 842. Brazilian legend Pele is third with 765.

At the same time, Spain failed to win in their first game after the triumphant EURO 2024, as Serbia managed to grab a deserved goalless draw at the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Belgrade. Without Rodri, but with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams in their attacking line, Luis de la Fuente's boys dominated the match, but couldn't find the back of the net despite more than 20 shots.

On the other hand, Serbia surprised everyone with their brave performance, even though they lacked a handful of their most prominent players. It was Luka Jovic who missed the game's most promising chance, as Zivkovic provided him with a perfect through ball, but the former Real Madrid striker missed a sitter in front of David Raya.
