Against a backdrop of only one win in thirteen games played, Stima turn to the transfer market to save their disappointing season.
Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Western Stima have unveiled nine new signings in the current open transfer window in an attempt to bolster their squad that has only managed one win since the season started, a 2-0 win over AFC Leopards in December last year.
Stima, who find themselves languishing in 17th position on seven points after thirteen games, looked to have taken a corner in terms of their fortunes this season when new head coach Abdalla Juma arrived at the club. The former Talanta coach forked out impressive but hard fought 1-1 and 2-2 draws against Mathare United and Ulinzi Stars respectively in his first two games in charge before going back to default settings, losing two consecutive home games against Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars.
A leaky defense has remained to be the biggest nightmare for the powermen this season; something new head coach has not managed to resolve yet having shipped in eight goals in four games. The team altogether has conceded a league high twenty seven goals since the season started.
Earlier, club chairman Laban Jobita confirmed that they were in the market hoping to change the tide that has rocked the club and particularly to address the defensive frailties.
"We are looking to strengthen the midfield and the backline," Laban Jobita, Western Stima’s chairman said.
True to his sentiments, out of the nine unveiled players, Stima signed eight midfielders/ defenders/goalkeepers.
The club chairman expressing his dissatisfaction with recent performances and suggested the numerous transfers were due to bad performance.
"We keep on playing and we are retaining the position that we are in. Do you think we are happy? The reason is we are not performing well and we want to improve," he reiterated.
Ugandan Isaac Doka Mweru, signed from Myda FC in Uganda, together with former Stima men Steven Otieno Odhiambo and Edwin 'Euro' Omondi among others have been brought to the club in a bid to strengthen Juma’s squad. Steven and Edwin join on loan from fellow league side Wazito FC.
