Highly-rated AFC Leopards centre back Gideon Werre is hoping to make his debut for the club when the Football Kenya Federation Premier League resumes after the FIFA international break.

The defender is yet to feature for Leopards since joining the den a month ago from the 2008 league winners Mathare United.

He missed the league opener against FC Talanta at the Nyayo National Stadium and subsequent duel against KCB at the Kasarani Stadium last Friday.

Werre might not have missed much as Leopards failed to beat a ten-man FC Talanta who frustrated the team to a barren draw. KCB, deposited three massive points after beating Ingwe 1-0.

The left-footed defender revealed that he missed the last two league assignments as he linked up with the team late but promised to fight for a place in the third round.

"I am giving my best in training so as to get minutes when the league resumes. I was among the players who arrived at the den late and thus, couldn't hit the ground running as anticipated. However, I feel I am in the right shape and ready to contest for game time," said Werre.

The league will take a break this weekend to pave way for the national team, Harambee Stars who are scheduled to play Qatar and South Sudan in international friendly matches.

Werre's bid to get playing time when Leopards host Muhoroni Youth in round three is not guaranteed as there are equally good centre backs at the club.

Coach Tom Juma paired skipper Washington Munene and Kayci Odhiambo at the heart of the defence in the past rounds with Randy Bakari, a natural centre back slotting in right back.

The three alongside Emmanuel Lwanga will all be looking to play in round three, leaving Werre with no option other than to work harder so as to convince Juma that he deserves minutes.
