Two wins in the remaining matches would bring up the 20th league title for K'Ogalo

Confidence is sky-high in the Gor Mahia camp as the club looks to get past two remaining hurdles that could potentially lead to a crowning moment - the 2022-23 season FKF Premier League title.

KOgalo, with 32 rounds played this season, top the table standings with 67 points and are two points clear of their title rivals Tusker - who until last weekend, were sitting at the league’s summit before tables took a turn.

“It hasn't been an easy journey,” Gor Mahia dependable goalkeeper Gad Matthews was quoted as saying on Gor Mahia’s social media platform. “There is pressure but we will do our best to bag the trophy.”

Going into last weekend’s round of fixtures, Gor Mahia trailed Tusker by a point before retaking the lead up top after two quick first-half goals from Austin Odhiambo and John Macharia sunk Ulinzi Stars 2-0 at the Kasarani Stadium.

Tusker, on the other hand, toiled away from home - eventually dropping their fifth game this season in a 2-1 defeat to 16th placed Wazito FC.

Now the hard task remains - closing out the season in two crucial games against Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars.

“We expect two tough encounters against teams which will give everything," Gor Mahia tactician Johnathan McKinstry said on Tuesday. “We will be ready for the challenge to ensure we carry the day."

In such a topsy-turvy season, Gor Mahia has twice been on top of the league before surrendering the lead to the Brewers - who now have two games to mount another comeback.

Robert Matano’s men play Posta Rangers on 21 June before sizing up against already relegated and bottom placed Vihiga United on 24 June - the last matchday of the season.

“We are all looking forward to clinching the title,” Gad added, painting the mood in the squad.

Title number 20 or third in a row then.
