Wanyika shares the secret behind his bloom at Bandari

Bandari custodian Michael Wanyika says he it cost him sweat and blood to establish himself as the first choice custodian at the club ahead of the internationals duo of Justin Ndikumana and Joseph Ochuka.

The former Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper has enjoyed playing time consistently this season unlike in the past campaigns where he has struggled to beat the competition.

Wanyika's wait began paying off late last season where he played the final five rounds and build on the confidence gained to muscle out Ndikumana out of the first team.

Ndikumana, a Burundian international who jetted out on Tuesday ahead of the FIFA week had been the first choice since his arrival at the club in August 2019 from Sofapaka.

Last year, Bandari beefed up the department by luring Ochuka, an Harambee Stars trialist back to the team from the deep pocketed KCB.

Wanyika also boasts of international exposure as former Stars head coach Sébastien Migne handed him a host of call ups during his tenure.

He also represented Kakamega Homeboyz in a regional tournament organized by the then league sponsors in July 2018 as well as featured in the CAF Confederation Cup matches for the dockers. 

"I have been working hard for the opportunity to play regularly and I am glad that my efforts paid off. I had been backing the custodian who was playing ahead of me and I must laid his professionalism as he has been supporting me from the substitutes bench," he said.

Wanyika joined Bandari in 2019 at a time when the club was seeking a replace Faruk Shikalo who was heading out to Tanzanian giants Yanga.
