The wingback spotted City Stars keeper Edwin Mukolwe off his line in the third minute, before rifling a long-range effort into the net.

His goal ensured Tusker moved up to the top of the table, on a weekend when other title contenders - Gor Mahia and Kenya Police - dropped points.

Speaking to the club media after the game, Wanjala said: “I am delighted to have scored my first goal for the team.

It was not an easy match, but we worked hard as a team to get the three points. The goal is a motivator for the next match to keep on with the same momentum.”

The goal added to his five assists since joining the club early this season.

In regards to Tusker’s title permutations, he said: “We have to remain focused for the remaining games of the season. This victory is now behind us, and we need to fix our eyes on the next game.”

Tusker, who hold a one-point lead going into the last seven games of the season, still have to play Mathare United -Sunday at Dandora Stadium - Murang’a Seal, Talanta, Sofapaka, Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz.

“They will not be easy fixtures and we have to give our all on the pitch,” Wanjala said.
