Wadadia, Gaspo out to cement WPL playoff places
Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 23.05.21. | 08:04
The league is in its 11th round and is scheduled to conclude on June 23 while the playoff kick off on June 27.
As the Women Premier League (WPL) enters its homestretch, the battle for playoff places heats up. Only three rounds will be left, after this weekend's matches, to the conclusion of the regular league season.
The top places seem to be decided in each zone with Thika Queens and Vihiga Queens heading zone A and B respectively. The former has gone on an 11-match winning streak while Vihiga have drawn once with Nakuru West Queens in ten matches. Baring calamity, the two will likely be at the helm of the zones when the league concludes.
In zone B, Wadadia are in action on Sunday, 23 May, against relegation-bound Oserian Ladies at the Mumias Complex. The hosts are looking to pick a win that will take them to 22 points from 11 matches and subsequently see them return to second place.

Nakuru are currently second, having surpassed Wadadia following a 3-1 win at home against Kisumu All Starlets. The two sides will fight to the last minute for the playoff places as a slip up could see fourth placed Kisumu and Trans-Nzoia Falcons pip them to the top three.

Meanwhile, zone B leaders and league holders Vihiga play away to Eldoret Falcons. The Alex Alumira-coached side are the better team on paper against a Eldoret side that is yet to register a point in the season.
In addition to the league playoffs and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women's Cup matches, Alumira's charges have their sight set on continental women's league action and are using the remaining matches as part of their build up.
Vihiga will host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women's Champions League CECAFA regional qualifier from July 17 to August 1 as they chase a ticket to the inaugural showpiece set to be staged in November.

In zone A, Gaspo play away to Kibera Soccer Ladies at the Stima Club. A win for the visitors takes them to 22 points but will maintain their third place on the log. A win for Kibera takes them to 12 points, one behind fifth placed Kayole Starlet. They will, however, still be in the relegation zone.
