Vinicus mentions his Real extension

The Real forward has only one year left on his contract

A big derby—one of the true classics of European football—awaits us in the Champions League quarterfinals. It’s the two-legged clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with the first match scheduled for Tuesday evening at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Ahead of the game, Vinícius Junior spoke with the journalists. The Brazilian enters the final year of his contract at the end of the season, making his future a frequent topic in Spanish media. That was the case again, despite the magnitude of the upcoming match.

Still, journalists pressed him on his plans—and it seems they got a clear hint he intends to stay:

I hope I can stay here for a long time. I still have one year left on my contract, I have the president’s trust, and when the right moment comes, I will sign an extension and remain here for many years. This is my dream club” Vinícius said.

Much of the earlier speculation about his potential departure was linked to reduced playing time under Xabi Alonso. However, his exit and the arrival of Alvaro Arbeloa have clearly suited the Brazilian:

I have a special relationship with Arbeloa, just like I had with Carlo Ancelotti. He always makes it clear what he expects from me, and I always give my best to deliver that. I went through a difficult period without scoring, but I learned from it. The best players always find a way to bounce back,” he explained.

Vinícius also addressed what bothered him under his previous coach:

I was playing, but with limited minutes. Every coach has their own methods, and I just couldn’t connect with him in the way he wanted. Still, it’s all part of the learning process. I hope to keep playing under Arbeloa because we communicate well and I feel his trust.”

He didn’t shy away from admitting his frustration during one of the clashes with FC Barcelona, when he reacted visibly after being substituted:

That wasn’t nice from me, and I apologize. I’d love to play every game and never be taken off. But when you calm down, you realize you made a mistake. I’m still young, still maturing, and I have a lot of room to improve,” concluded the Real Madrid forward.
