Vinicius says he was racially abused by a child at the Seville game

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior said he saw racist abuse by a "child" during his team's 1-1 draw at Sevilla on Saturday in La Liga. The game itself was already bad enough for Real, who dropped two points and were angry at the referee, whose decisions, according to them, prevented them from winning, but they also had to deal with another case of racism to their player. Spanish newspaper Marca ran photographs of a man appearing to make monkey gestures in the direction of the Brazil winger after he clashed with Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

Vinicius shared the same picture on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and said in addition, he had seen a video of a child making a racist gesture. He thanked Sevilla for their prompt reaction, resulting in expelling the man from the stadium.

"Congratulations to Sevilla for their quick positioning on the incident and punishment in yet another sad episode for Spanish football. Unfortunately, I had access to a video of another racist gesture in Saturday's match, this time carried out by a child. I am very sorry there is no-one to educate you. I invest, and I invest a lot, in education in Brazil to help form citizens with different attitudes to these" he wrote.

Sevilla already stated at the conclusion of the match, explaining what happened and the procedure that was followed once the LaLiga Integrity team informed Sevilla of the existence of a video in which a person was seen making racist gestures in the stands of the stadium.

“Sevilla FC would like to inform you that after detecting xenophobic and racist behavior by a fan in their stands, they have identified him, expelled him from the stadium and reported him to the police authorities who were working in our stadium. Furthermore, the internal disciplinary regulations will be strictly applied to him and he will be expelled as a member imminently” reads the statement. The Brazilian winger has been the victim of racist abuse on various occasions during his time in Spain, although often no action has been taken by the law.
