Villa's Leverkusen duo crushes Everton

Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 20.08.23. | 18:26

Unai Emery's men totally recovered from last week's heavy defeat

Good news for Aston Villa fans, their devastation in Newcastle a week ago was just a bad game. After losing 5-1 against the Magpies (and it could have been even more), they left no hope to the visiting Everton today, and crushed them 4-0 to earn the first win in the new Premier League campaign. And it could be even said that today's game resembled the one from last week, but in a reverse way. Just like Newcastle a week ago, the Villains were now in the driving seat, scored early goals, capitalized on Everton's mistakes and put the game away long before the last whistle.

Last week he scored the only goal and today he was not in the stats sheet, but Moussa Diaby is a real deal. The newly required Leverkusen player was again deployed through the middle rather than on his favorite right wing spot, but had a big inlfuence and two great chances to score. But his former teammate from Leverkusen Leon Bailey scored and assisted for another one and was even better. On the other hand, Everton, even under Sean Dyche was not convincing at all and never looked to be into the game. They lost Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury (again), as well as Iwobi, while Villa's Coutinho came in as a sub, but then picked up what seems to be an serious injury.

Everton have lost their last four Premier League games against Aston Villa and today they have did it for the record fifth time. They had only two good chances through the match, but were both denied brilliantly by Emiliano Martinez. First he saved Danjuma's shot at the end of the first half (the score was already 2-0 by then) and then denied Maupay in the 60th minute. By that time it was already 3-0 and the game was decided. Villa scored it's first goal of the game in the 18th minute, when captain McGinn scored after a chance created by Diaby and Bailey. Everton keeper Pickford worsen things with a penalty minutes later and and Luiz doubled the lead, before Bailey used Keane's bad clearance in the penalty area and made it 3-0. Villa' sub Duran came in and immediately scored in the 75th minute for the final result.
