Sammy Okoth is adamant the team will beat the drop should football resume.
Vihiga United head coach Sammy Okoth is looking to avoid a drop straight back into the National Super League (NSL) having occupied relegation positions for the better part of the season.
The Vihiga-based club has struggled for form since becoming the first NSL side to secure a route to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) through the relegation / promotion play offs.
Vihiga have won only two matches this season, a run of form that has left them in serious danger of two relegations in the last three seasons.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Okoth revealed how he is planning to entangle the team from the shackles of relegation with the team placed 16th having amassed 11 points from 16 games.

“There is no shortcut, it is just working hard and getting the right coordination. The other teams in the relegation spots are not far from reach, it is not the first time that I find myself in the relegation fight,” he said,
“Two of my strikers (Alex Imbusia and David Simiyu) left just when I started getting goals, I plan to work more with the boys to make them more confident when approaching matches,” he added.
Vihiga’s achilles heel has been the lack of goals, with the side finding the back of the net six times this season, forming the league’s worst attack.
Okoth also wanted the players' welfare to improve as they await for the resumption of sporting activities in the country and bemoaned the lack of experience from his side.
“I also want the welfare of the players to improve because motivating them has been a huge challenge, the team is not in the best of places in terms of finances. Most of the players in the squad did not have Premier League experience and that is why I got a number of red cards in the opening matches - inexperience,” added the coach.
