Kenya Women Premier League champions Vihiga Queens will be keen to get their second win in the ongoing 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA Zone qualifiers when they face AS Kigali Women from Rwanda on Wednesday 16 August.
The Charles Okere coached side got their campaign off to a perfect start after rallying from a goal down to dispatch New Generations FC from Zanzibar 3-1 in their Group B opener staged at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Kampala.
Queens, who are hoping to reclaim the tournament they won in 2021 during its inaugural edition which gave them the chance to represent CECAFA region at the main event in Egypt, completed the comeback with goals from Winnie Babirye, Ruth Khasoha and Martha Amunyolet getting the job done on Sunday.

In the second game, the Western based outfit will be facing a Kigali side who were beaten in their opening match after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Tanzania’s JKT Queens with Okere noting that the team still had a lot to do in the remaining two matches.
“We still have a lot of work to do in the remaining group matches,” the head coach noted.
The team will then finish their group stage action against JKT Queens.
On Tuesday, Kampala Queens, who registered a 3-0 win against South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC, will take on Buja Queens who were beaten 2-1 by Ethiopia Commercial Bank (CBE).
CBE will take on Djibouti’s FAD FC in the other match.
The winner of the tournament will get the single ticket to the CAF Women's Champions League main event set to be held in Cote d’Ivoire between 05-19 November 2023.
