Trinity Starlets’ unbeaten start of the season came to an end after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Vihiga Queens in an FKF Women's Premier League match played on Wednesday.
Heading into the match, Trinity had not lost any of their first eight matches- and were at the summit of the league table with 20 points, three more than second placed Ulinzi Starlets- while their opponents, Vihiga were seventh with 12 points.
Just as has been their norm this season, Trinity started the match on a high, dictating early proceedings and finding chances through Elizabeth Muteshi and Shalen Njeri by the tenth minute.
Harambee Starlets forward Martha Amunyolete got Vihiga’s first chance in the 24th minute, but her strike went inches wide.
In the 42nd minute, Eglay Mukwana was presented with Trinity's best chance of the half, but failed to find the back of the net despite dribbling the goalkeeper.
Georgina Nanjala broke the deadlock in the 69th minute after she was put through by Amunyolete.
The Kenyan giants defended their lead until the final minute to an end their four-match winless streak.
Vihiga are now fifth on the log with 15 points to their name, while Trinity remain on top of the table with 20 points.
At the Marist International University in Karen, Kibera Soccer Women grabbed a monumental 4-2 win over defending champions Kenya Police Bullets.
Elizabeth Ochaka opened the scores in the fifth minute after heading in a corner, but the lead was short lived as Kibera equalized 10 minutes later through Anna Arusi.
In the 29th minute, Arusi turned from scorer to provider, setting up Grace Wekesa who doubled the hosts lead, heading to half time.
In the second half, Arusi continued with her impressive show, grabbing a brace in the 55th minute.
Lorna Nyabuto pulled one back for Police in the 66th minute, but Kibera regained their two-goal lead in the 94th minute through Harambee Starlets forward Faith Mboya.
With the win, Kibera exited the relegation zone to occupy the eighth position with 11 points, as Police remain third with 16 points.
