The match is expected to kick off at 1pm East African Time.

Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC will face New Generations FC (Zanzibar) in the opening Group B match of the CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA Zone on Sunday at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Kampala.

The match is expected to kick off at 1pm East African Time.

Ahead of the duel, coach Charles Okere who led Queens to their inaugural CECAFA title and CAF Women Champions League qualification in 2021 says the team is ready to try and have a good start.

“It is always good to get a good start in such tournaments because this will give us momentum,” he told CECAFA Media.

The former Tusker assistant coach revealed that the team prepared for the tournament by training for the four weeks and camping in Nairobi.

“We are more than ready to battle and my players are looking forward for another good show,” said the former Harambee Starlets coach.

Defender Phoebe Oketch who rejoined from Hakkarigucuspor Women FC in Turkey is expected to make the starting team in a match that the Kenyan girls hope will end in their favour.

Queens who reclaimed the league title in the concluded season will be skippered by Merceline Wayodi with Ugandan international Winnie Babirye expected to feature.

The 2021 Zonal champions did not defend their title last year following Kenya’s ban by World Football governing body, FIFA for government interference.

The second Group B match will feature Tanzania Women’s Premier League champions JKT Queens and AS Kigali Women (Rwanda).
