Vihiga extend unbeaten run as Mathare pick first point

Trans Nzoia Falcons beat zone B minnows Eldoret Falcons 4-2 in a six goal thriller.
Goals from Maurine Achieng and Terry Engesha in quick succession at the half-hour mark and 32nd minute against Wadadia were enough for Women Premier League (WPL) holders Vihiga Queens to take their unbeaten run to eight matches as the second leg of the league kicked off on Saturday, 6 March.
Alex Alumira's charges were able to withstand the pressure from their zone B arch-rivals Wadadia at the Mumias Complex to win 2-1 with the latter's goal coming in the 58th minute through a Ruth Chebungei converted penalty.
"My players had a good game overall but for the mistake that resulted in a penalty that could have been avoided. I am happy with how we played and can only wish for improvement going forward as teams will be out to get us," said Alumira.
The win takes Vihiga to 22 points from seven wins and one draw. Nakuru West Queens were the only team that managed to pick a point from the zone B leaders ina two all draw in the first leg.
Meanwhile, second-placed Trans Nzoia Falcons beat zone B minnows Eldoret Falcons 4-2 in a six-goal thriller played at the Eldoret Show Ground.

Violet Nanjala opened the scoring for Trans-Nzoia in the 15th minute but Immaculate Nawire levelled the score in the 33rd minute. Martha Karani gave Trans-Nzoia the lead again at 2-1 in the 41st minute for the match to head to the breather with the visitors holding the slight advantage.
Viona Anyangomin restored parity in the 59th minute for the scoreline to read 2-2 but Nanjala made sure her side walked away with maximum points as she scored her second in the 68th minute before adding one more for a hat-trick, and the team's fourth, in the 73rd minute.
At Oyugis' K'Otieno grounds, visiting Kisumu Allstarlets bagged all the points on a 1-0 outcome against hosts SES Ladies.
In zone A, Mathare Women who went for a seven-match losing streak in the first leg seem to have found their mojo on the break as they forced a 2-all draw against Kayole Starlet yo pick their first point of the season as the second leg began.
Josephine Nana had given Kayole hopes of walking away with maximum points with a brace in the first half, scoring one in the 30th minute and the other in the added minute of first half.
However, Juliet Adimbo scored an own goal in the 63rd minute to give Mathare a fighting chance that they did not waste. Gladys Akoth equalised the score in the 69th minute for the draw.
