Vardy's tour of the big five: Spain next?

Jamie Vardy could be set for a new adventure in Spain, with reports claiming the veteran striker has made Sevilla his preferred destination.

The 39-year-old is currently a free agent after ending his spell with Cremonese, making him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen without paying a transfer fee. According to Fichajes, Sevilla are exploring the possibility of bringing the former Leicester City icon to Andalusia, while Vardy is said to be willing to lower his wage demands to help make the move happen.

Talks are reportedly centered around a two-year contract worth approximately €1.5 million per season. For Sevilla, such a deal would represent a low-risk opportunity to add proven experience to their attack while staying within their financial limits.

Although Vardy is unlikely to be expected to carry the goalscoring burden on his own, he would offer valuable qualities including leadership, relentless work rate, pace, and years of top-level experience. His resume speaks for itself: he famously led Leicester City to one of football's greatest underdog triumphs by winning the Premier League, before adding an FA Cup and Community Shield to his trophy collection. He also finished as the Premier League's top scorer during his time with the Foxes.

Even in the later stages of his career, Vardy has shown he still knows where the goal is. Last season he scored seven times and registered three assists in 29 appearances for Cremonese. Although the club was relegated to Serie B, the English forward remained a regular starter, featuring from the first whistle in 24 matches. Ironically, Leicester also suffered relegation during the same campaign.

Across his Premier League career, Vardy amassed 145 goals in 342 appearances, cementing his status as one of the competition's greatest late bloomers. Retirement, meanwhile, appears to be the last thing on his mind.

"I still enjoy playing football," Vardy recently said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

Sevilla are not alone in the race, with Feyenoord also believed to be monitoring the situation. However, Spain is reportedly where Vardy wants to continue his career. For now, negotiations remain ongoing, and while no agreement has been finalized, Sevilla could be closing in on an experienced signing at no transfer cost.
