VAR fury at Camp Nou: Barcelona file official complaint to UEFA after Atletico heist

The Blaugrana demand answers from UEFA after "invisible VAR" lets Atletico Madrid walk away with a controversial win

Barcelona have gone on the offensive - not on the pitch, but in the boardroom - after a stormy 2-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid left them fuming over what they call a "grave lack of VAR intervention."

The flashpoint? A moment early in the second half, when Marc Pubill quite literally lent a helping hand in the box, and somehow got away with it. Despite furious appeals, referee Istvan Kovacs waved play on, while VAR official Christian Dingert stayed suspiciously silent.

Cue outrage.

Barca didn't hold back, firing off an official complaint to UEFA, demanding an investigation, access to referee communications, and - most importantly - an admission that something went seriously wrong.

And if that wasn't enough salt in the wound, the VAR did step in earlier, just not in Barca's favour. Pau Cubarsi saw his yellow upgraded to a red after a review, leaving Hansi Flick seething.

"The VAR was very focused… for them," the Barca boss jabbed post-match, raising eyebrows and temperatures in equal measure.

Meanwhile, Julian Alvarez had already struck with a beauty from a free-kick, before Alexander Sorloth rubbed it in with a second, sealing Atletico's first win at Camp Nou since 2006 and leaving Barcelona with more questions than answers.

One thing's clear: this tie is far from over… and the return leg just got a whole lot spicier.
