The player accuses the club of not keeping its word.
Austin Odhiambo remains unsettled at Gor Mahia despite earlier confirmation that he had reached an agreement with the club over a renewal for the next two years.
The midfielder’s contract expires in ten days’ time, and initial talks over a renewal came to a positive conclusion, with the attacker agreeing to a new contract until August 2025.
In yet another twist, the player now says the club is not keeping its word, and the former AFC Leopards man is exploring his options. He reveals that he is in talks with two other local sides over a possible switch before the transfer window shuts.
"I am in talks with two other clubs over a possible transfer because Gor Mahia are not keeping their end of the bargain, "he said.
He went on to disclose that the club wants him to append his signature to a new deal without paying him the agreed signing fees, something he says is not going to be possible.
"We had agreed on everything, but they now want me to sign a contract without paying my signing fee, and I don't think that's going to be possible," he added.
The player has now resorted to skipping training until the contract issue is sorted out.
"I informed the club after Saturday's friendly game against Murang'a Seal that I wasn't going to continue training until we handled the contract issue," he revealed.
The tussle will come as a blow of some sort for coach Johnathan McKinstry, who banks on Odhiambo as one of his key players. The team is preparing for their first game of the season against Sofapaka, which will be played on Saturday at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
Gor have already brought in five players to beef up their squad. The five are Kennedy Onyango, Alvin Ochieng, Rooney Onyango, Kevin Juma, and Lawrence Juma.
