The NSL season is set to kick off next month

Mombasa Elite will be hoping to export talents and give the rest of National Super League teams a run for their money in the 2023-2024 season that is set to kick off next month.

Elite, have been doing fairly good from the time the new management took over after the club rebranded from Modern Coast Rangers to what it is today.

However, the outfit hasn't come close to garnering automatic promotion a feat the technical director Charles Okwemba insists that it is in their minds heading to the new season.

Okwemba revealed that the club was aiming at killing two birds with a single stone in the new season as competing for top honours and getting a handful of players to be ready for European football was part of their plan.

The former midfielder said plans were at an advanced stage to have at least five players fly out and join foreign teams before the years ends.

In May last year, the club announced that four players had jetted out for trials in unspecified countries abroad.

"We want to be as competitive as we can in the new season. We also want to nurture young players to be ready for European football," said Okwemba.

The former AFC Leopards midfielder insisted that they will not depart from their tradition of signing budding players in the lower leagues when they begin their recruitment exercise.

He clarified that the team had loaned out the versatile Shariff Majabe to Bandari rather than cashing on him as it had been reported before.

"We will bring in young and talented players possibly from next week. We haven't lost players apart from Majabe whom we loaned to Bandari and therefore, we will not sign many players," he stated.

The former player also said the team was in the process of reconstituting the technical bench and the new gaffer would be announced later.
