Unbeaten in the last 15 games: Liverpool crush Villa

Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 03.09.23. | 17:59

The Reds won the game 3-0 and moved to third on the table

Liverpool are back on the winning track. After turmoil last season and an interesting transfer window, in which they surprisingly lost captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League, while Al-Ittihad is still threatening to lure Mohamed Salah, the Reds have today managed to extend their winning streak to three games. In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten after four games, since they drew 1-1 with Chelsea on the opening day, and after that, won against Bournemouth, made a miraculous comeback with ten men with a 2-1 win in Newcastle, before winning easily at home against Aston Villa today 3-1.

The visitors never looked like a threat, and Liverpool scored goals on time in order to ‘kill’ the game early. Dominik Szoboszlai scored his first goal for his new club in the third minute before Matty Cash worsened things with an own goal 20 minutes later. The Villains didn’t have a single shot in the first 45 minutes, while Liverpool could have scored at least two more goals. Aston Villa have done a good job in preseason and brought in Youri Tielemens, Torres, Moussa Diaby and Nicolo Zaniolo, while Barcelona’s Lenglet came as a cover for injured Mings. But today, they looked a bit like a team which lost 5-1 on the opening day in Newcastle. Keeper Emi Martinez returned to the goal, but Jacob Ramsey, Emi Buendia, Alex Moreno and Bertrand Traore were still missing, so when things went wrong, coach Unai Emery didn’t have enough quality on the bench. Liverpool have won nine of their last 11 Premier League games against Aston Villa and today continued the streak easily. After two early goals, the guests were forced to attack, which allowed plenty of space for quick Salah, who either had chances or provided assists to Nunez, who missed at least one sitter.
