Ugandan keeper among five new faces unveiled at Kakamega Homeboyz

Ugandan-born goalkeeper James Ssetuba Cleo has officially completed his return to the top-flight Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) after being unveiled at western-based Kakamega Homeboyz.

The Ugandan custodian, who played for Sony Sugar for two seasons before leaving in late 2020, was among the five new faces unveiled by the Patrick Odhiambo-coached Homeboyz following the opening of the mid-season February transfer window on Monday.

“Ugandan-born goalkeeper James Ssetuba Cleo joins from Tanzanian Premier League side Ihefu FC,” the club posted on their social media platform.

Vihiga Bullets defender Enock Masinza has also rejoined his parent club after a six-month spell with the struggling FKF Premier League side. The versatile defender, who can also play as a winger, has been in great form for the Bullets providing seven assists on top of one goal in ten appearances.

Kenyan international and former Wazito right back Dennis Sikhayi has also found a new home in Kakamega and is expected to bolster the team’s defensive flanks. Sikhayi brings a wealth of experience to the side having been part of Kenya’s squad that lifted the 2017 CECAFA title.

The club has also strengthened its forward department as experienced forward Kevin Amwayi joins in a bid to boost their attacking line that has scored only thirteen goals in seventeen games.

Forward Mohammed Adnan also joins the team from Somali Premier League outfit Gaadidka FC.

Already, Homeboyz, who sit in eighth place, have parted ways with 5 players in a bid to revamp the western-based side with Elli Asieche, Christopher Masinza, Meshack Muyonga, Simon Abuko and Eugene Wethuli being released.

Homeboyz finished last season second on the log after being denied the title on the final day of the season and in the 2021 campaign managed a top-six finish.

This season, with pressure mounting on the team to replicate their most recent performances, the current squad couldn’t live up to the hype and gave a dismal 8th place finish in the first leg, sparking changes as club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula overhauled the entire technical bench led by John Baraza.

Currently handled by Odhiambo, Ibrahim Shikanda and Jeffers Odongo, the trio have managed one win and a draw from their first two matches.
