South Sudan unveil their U23 squad for the CECAFA tourney

After failing to make to the senior South Sudan senior football team for FIFA Arab Cup qualifiers, Mathare United forward Dani Lual can afford a smile after being drafted in the U23 team for the upcoming CECAFA tournament that will be held in Ethiopia

Lual was handed his maiden call up to the senior team last month for qualifiers where the Bright Stars were supposed to play Jordan but was dropped on the eve of departure to Doha, the city designated to host the first round of qualifiers.

The match did not take place after more than half a dozen South Sudan players tested positive for coronavirus upon arriving in Doha and hence, the organizers gifted Jordan a win and three goals.

Lual who rubbished having hard feelings to coach Cyprian Besong for overlooking him despite banging goals in the test matches played ahead of the team's departure to Doha has had his dream of scaling to the final junior level after coach James Yor included him in his 32-man provisional squad.

Yor has also drafted in AFC Leopards midfielder Saad Musa who doubles up as a key member of the senior team.

Saad was among the 23 players who jetted to Doha in a delegation which Gor Mahia forward Tito Okello was also part of. The regional tournament which was earlier penciled to kick off on Saturday was pushed forward to July 17.
