Two assists for Maina in Koln's Europa Conference League win

The Kenyan capped off a wonderful night with a brace of assists

Kenyan midfielder Linton Maina claimed a brace of assists as his Koln side picked up an emphatic 4-2 win over Czech side Slovacko in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The 23-year-old was starting his first back to back match at Koln since making the move from 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96 in the summer transfer window.

Koln posted a strong start to the game and only needed 10 minutes to open the scoring through Sargis Adamyan after Luca Jannis put the ball on a plate for him.

Three minutes before the half time break, Linton Maina threaded in a neat through ball to Florian Dietz who made no mistake as he doubled Koln’s lead.

Slovacko resumed the second half a different beast as they pulled one goal back through Jan Kalabiska just three minutes into the closing half.

With momentum on their side, Slovacko drew level in the 52nd minute when Milan Petrzela netted his second goal of the Conference League after scoring against AIK in the qualifiers.

Koln were however handed a penalty in the 65th minute which Dejan Ljubicic stepped up to take and made no mistake as he regained Koln’s lead.

Maina capped off his impressive night by supplying another assist in the 74th minute, this time finding Dejan Ljubicic to complete his brace.

Koln next face Bochum in the Bundesliga on Sunday 18 September.
