Twitter jokers love to ridicule Werner for bad misses, but Nagelsmann wants to sign the Chelsea forward

Bayern are always looking to sign the best German players

Bayern are basing their strategy on a few simple principles: never overpay players, target the rivals' best talent and, whenever possible, sign the best German players to build the team around them.

When Julian Nagelsmann became the Bavarians' head coach at the end of last season, he agreed with the club's honorary president and one of the organization's most influential men Uli Hoeness that German players should be made the core of the Munich club.

Saturday, 19.30: (2.90) RB Leipzig (3.45) Bayern (2.40)

There are many names being mentioned as possible transfer targets, the names of Kai Havertz, Thilo Kehrer, Karim Adeyemi and a few others. However, none of them seems quite so realistic to materialize in the foreseeable future as a potential swoop for Chelsea's misfiring striker Timo Werner.

Although some of his misses in a Chelsea shirt border on unbelievable, there is still a good player in there somewhere. Of course, many people on social media don't really care about the facts, choosing rather to make jokes about Timo's colossal failings in front of the goal.

Since Chelsea re-signed Romelu Lukaku, the opportunities for Werner are not going to be quite as many as last season. And after a less than satisfactory maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge, Werner would very likely seek a new club where he would be a first-team regular. And if there is a coach who believes in Werner's ability – it's Nagelsmann, the man who worked with him at RB Leipzig.

German sports channel Sport1 reports that Werner's link to Bayern is more than just speculation and that Nagelsmann has spoken to his employers about the possibility of recruiting the German international.

However, any business for the 25-year-old attacker won't be straightforward. First of all, there is Werner's heavy $18 million-per-season contract with the Blues that isn't going to be matched by Bayern – at least not that easily. Also, Borussia Dortmund's striker Erling Haaland remains the Holy Grail of strikers for all elite clubs, Bayern included. Only if the Bavarians fail in their future attempt to bring in the Norwegian goal machine will they go for Werner instead.

After all, they've still got Robert Lewandowski to provide a steady supply of goals, but thinking about the future is a must – considering that the record-breaking Pole is 33 years old. Bayern are well known for plotting their moves well ahead and it would come as no surprise if they find a way to surprise us again!
