The Black Stars were stunned in Comoros while African champions were held in Togo

When Nigeria only drew with Zimbabwe on Sunday, the African world was stunned, considering the strength of the Super Eagles, but the Twilight of the African football Gods continued on Tuesday. After expected wins from Ivory Coast and Egypt, today’s games brought us some stunning defeats. Rwanda managed a win over South Africa 2-0, Cameroon and Senegal only drew against Libya and Togo, while Ghana suffered a shocking defeat from Comoros. To make things worse, this is their second win over the Black Stars in a row.

Until four days ago, the Comoros national team had never even won a World Cup qualifier, let alone been close to qualifying. But tonight, the whole country is ‘burning’. The dream of going to the World Cup seems like a reality for the first time. After a shocking victory over Ghana in the group stage of the AFCON last year, Comoros just made two wins in a row over Black Stars, courtesy of the Maolinda goal in the 43rd minute. Two rounds - two victories. First, the Central African Republic fell four days ago; it was 4:2 in Moroni, and tonight Ghana fell down. The guest had such stars as Inaki Williams, and brothers Ayew and Mohammed Kudus, but they couldn’t even score one single goal and manager Chris Hughton will have to find ways to get out of this crisis when they meet Cape Verde in January 2024.

Senegal came to Togo in full force with all available players led by Sadio Mane in attack, but the hosts were too strong, and the game finished in a goalless draw. African champions tried everything, and coach Aliou Cisse even brought int Chelsea’s Jackson, but he scuffed an opportunity shortly after his introduction. Togo could have won near the end, and Senegal was fortunate that both Yav Annor and Khaled Narey missed good chances. Cameroon took the lead against Libya through Olivier Ntcham's 34th-minute penalty, but Abdulmunem Aleiyan scored an equaliser nine minutes later to extend the North Africans' unbeaten start in Group D.
