FKF National Super League side Mulembe United took advantage of the managerial changes at Mara Sugar to end their six-game winless run as they battered the promotion hopefuls 2-1 in a league game staged at Mumias Complex on Saturday.

The win which was Mulembe’s second of the campaign ensured they ended round 8 out of the red zone for the first time this term and had coach Samuel Twago pleased with his charges display.

Twago, who has stayed with the club for more than three seasons noted that the team had started mastering his philosophy and it could be seen from the game as they fought from a goal down to pick maximum points in a tie that the Vihiga-based club were labeled as the underdogs.

That win was essential, everyone at the club was worried with the recent run, it shows that the team is starting to get together and they will get better and better with more matches,’ offered the former Soy United head coach.

Twago further hailed Mara’s resurgence and determination in the game, tipping them to flourish in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League promotion hunt.

Mara had a good game and it was a very good test to my players. If the team can manage to pull the strings and maintain the same players till the end of the season I don’t see them struggle in the promotion race,” he added.

The experienced gaffer experienced optimism that Mulembe was going to build from the win and try to challenge for the title noting that the league is still open to anyone.

We tried out different combinations in the opening games and we can see it is finally paying, we picked lessons from the match and hopefully this is just a start for my boys. Our aim is to try to win as many matches as possible and eventually get promoted at the end of the season,” expressed Twago
