Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere unhappy with three-week FKF Premier League break

Tusker FC interim head coach Charles Okere is less impressed with the FKF Premier League long break that will last three weeks.

Okere said that the long break will affect the momentum that teams have been gathering from pre-season leading up to the start of the league.

With only the opening round of matches played, the much-awaited 2024/2025 FKF Premier League is set for a long break to allow international matches to be played.

The former Vihiga Queens head coach lamented the long break after guiding Tusker to an opening-day victory against Sofapaka.

"Honestly the league break is long if you ask me. Three weeks is such a long time and will definitely affect teams and the rhythm of the team (Tusker) if not planned well," said Okere.

Okere revealed that he will sit down with members of his technical bench and the team's management to come up with a comprehensive program that will cover the three weeks to keep the team in good shape.

"We will as a team come out with a program that will cater for that time so that we don't lose the momentum. Maybe organize some friendly matches to keep in shape," he said.

Okere further explained that teams had a long pre-season which then meant that they were just awaiting the start of the league to actualize their strategies which will now be affected by the break.

"We had six weeks of pre-season and so the players were itching for the Premier League and even for us coaches to implement whatever we prepared them for."

With all that, the CAF A top student is glad to have gotten a win on the opening day of the league which is beneficial in achieving the bigger goal of clinching the title.

"I am happy with the win, it's important to always start the season on a high. Last season, we started slowly and that was detrimental to our title chase,” he added.

The win against Sofapaka will be forever remembered by Okere as it was his maiden win in the top flight since he took the reins of the Brewers from Robert Matano.
