The custodian made an immediate impact on his debut against Mara Sugar FC in Awendo, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win, and followed it up with another shutout in Friday’s 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars in Murang’a.

Signed at the start of the season, Obiero, who previously featured for FC Talanta, Kariobangi Sharks, Posta Rangers, and Nairobi United, is now setting ambitious personal goals.

The shotstoppers' aim is to secure regular playing time and finish among the league’s top goalkeepers in terms of clean sheets.

“My target at the start of the season was to keep 13 clean sheets, and if I attain that, then I will be among the top keepers in the league. This means that I have to work hard to play more.

I am thankful to have played back-to-back matches, and this gives me encouragement, especially with the two clean sheets,” Obiero said in an interview with the club's media.

He also spoke on Tusker FC’s broader ambitions, stressing the team’s focus on reclaiming the league title they last won in 2021.

“As a team, we want to win each match as it comes and be crowned champions at the end of the season. We need to keep working because nothing comes easy,” he added.

Obiero revealed that he had always been ready for his opportunity and underscored the importance of preparation, especially with strong competition within the squad.

“As a player in a team, you will always need to be ready because eventually an opportunity will come, and you have to be ready to take it. It is now up to me to work and prove myself,” he noted.

He further highlighted the healthy rivalry among Tusker’s goalkeepers. All three, Obiero, Joseph Ochuka and Brian Opondo, have featured this season, providing a competitive edge that benefits the team.

“Competition in the team is high and healthy, and we push each other to perform well. We have a very strong goalkeeping department with Ochuka Joseph, who is very experienced, as well as Opondo Brian, who has been with the national team and trained with some of the best in the country.

We always share our experiences, and at the end of the day, we back whoever is picked to start,” he explained.

He will be hoping to start between the posts when Tusker take on Sofapaka on Saturday.
