Turkish giants write off four African players for 'incompatibilities within the team'

Ex-Man Utd defender Eric Bailly and Cameroon's Vincent Aboubakar are on the list of excluded players

Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is one of five players to be excluded from Turkish top-flight outfit Besiktas' first-team squad, with the vast majority of them (four) being African players.

The 29-year-old Ivory Coast centre-back only joined the Turkish Super Lig side from the Red Devils in September. Vincent Aboubakar, Rachid Ghezzal, Jean Onana and Valentin Rosier have also been dropped.

Besiktas said the decision was made because of "poor performance" and "incompatibilities within the team".

"Our work regarding recruitment for the new squad structure continues," the club added.

Bailly, who was at Old Trafford from 2016 to 2023, has only made eight appearances for Besiktas.

The players' contracts have not been cancelled, but they have been removed from the first team and made to train away from the squad.
