Bayern Munich executives held a secret meeting with their coach
So far, Bayern Munich has 10 points from four Bundesliga games, and is in second place only to Bayer Leverkusen only on goal difference. On the surface everything looks fine, but underneath, tension is building up. And it’s the worst kind of tension, between the coach and the executive board. According to the well informed Bild, Bayern’s executives warned their coach about his public negativity towards the club and the players and advised him to calm down, as it is not the club’s way of behavior.
The reasons for this are various. First of all, Thomas Tuchel was never the laid back coach like Hansi Flick. He had his outbursts with other clubs too, so the Bavarians, who rate him highly, should have known that. Then, there is the question of transfer window. The German tactician was very precise and firm with his wish list back in June: a midfielder who plays the ‘number 6’ was at number one, striker at number two, and a goalkeeper at number three. The first wish was not realized, as Palhinha’s transfer from Fulham broke down on the last day, Harry Kane did arrived, but Kyle Walker in the end also remained in England and signed a contract extension with City. Yan Sommer was sold but the club didn’t found a proper replacement and Neuer is still out of action. So, when he moaned about it publicly a couple of times, a secret meeting in Sabener Strasse was organized during the international break. All the ‘big guns’ were there: Uli Hoenes, Hainer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Jan-Christian Dreesen and Tuchel was clearly told that he should be less emotional and negative about his own club in public and not weaken his own players.
One of the prime examples was Tuchel’s dealings with Joshua Kimmich. A captain and a veteran in the dressing room, Bayern’s midfielder is not giving his best since the former Chelsea boss arrived. For starters, Tuchel denied his qualities as ‘number six’ and then subbed him against Leverkusen, citing injury, But when asked about it afterwards, the player said “Ask the coach”. On top of that, Bayern’s display have not been impressive under Tuchel at all. Any wrong result against Manchester United tonight, and the tension can rise to the surface quickly.
