Triple G for Arsenal's W: Two Gabriels and Gyokeres crush Atleti

Reading Time: 4min | Tue. 21.10.25. | 23:54

The Brazilians started the Gunners' scoring spree, while the Swede completed it with a brace - 4-0

Three weeks ago, Atletico Madrid were on the verge of snatching a point against Liverpool, but they conceded an added-time winner and lost the game 3-2. However, Atleti's second Champions League trip to England was absolutely terrible, as Arsenal dismantled them in London 4-0.

After a goalless first half, Diego Simeone and his men must have believed they could upset the rivals, or at least grab a point they lost against the Reds. But alas...

Once the Gunners started scoring, they refused to stop! Between the 57th and 70th minutes - in the span of just 13 minutes, to be precise - Mikel Arteta's men scored as many as four goals, completely destroying the visitors.

The two Brazilian Gabriels, Magalhaes and Martinelli, bagged the first pair, while the remainder came through Viktor Gyokeres' brace.

Despite the defeat against Liverpool three weeks ago, Atletico returned to England to face Arsenal with the same mindset - defence and eventual counters.

Hence, it's no wonder the Gunners dominated the first half. Five minutes into the game, Eberechi Eze hit the bar from distance, after the ball deflected off David Hancko, while Declan Rice sent the rebound over the crossbar.

Fourteen minutes later, Bukayo Saka had a massive one-on-one chance, but Atleti custodian Jan Oblak won that duel. Arsenal's "Starboy" found himself in the centre of attention nine minutes before the break as well, when he assisted for Gabriel Martinelli's goal, which was disallowed for Martin Zubimendi's earlier foul.

As for the visitors, their only notable effort occurred after David Raya's poor rush, but Julian Alvarez's strike went narrowly wide of the right post. Hence, the clash at Emirates remained the only one in tonight's UCL programme with a goalless first half.

Minutes after the break, the popular "Spider" was even closer to breaking the deadlock, as his long-range missile crashed against the bar! Still, both nets remained intact. But only until the 57th minute.

When they couldn't scored from open play, the Gunners broke the deadlock from a set piece! This time, it wasn't a corner, but a long-range free kick, but the delivery was the same: Rice crossed the ball in where Gabriel Magalhaes met it and put it behind Oblak's back!

Seven minutes later, it was already 2-0! Myles Lewis-Skelly carried the ball all the way to the rivals' box and sent a timely pass for Gabriel Martinelli, who found the far bottom corner with a tremendous effort, doubling Arsenal's lead! But that wasn't the end, as Viktor Gyokeres made it 3-0 just three minutes after the second goal. Atletico were crushed.

You thought the tally was closed? You were so wrong! The Swede directed a three-minute blitzkrieg and completed a brace, again after a set piece, continuing the destruction of Los Colchoneros!

At that point, it was definitely the end. Arteta gave a chance to several subs, rested a few key players, as the home crew peacefully awaited the final ref's whistle. As for Atletico, they won't remember fondly their recent trips to England, that's for sure.
