Ulinzi Starlets won 2-1 against Bungoma Queens in a match played at the Bungoma Polytechnic Grounds

Trinity Starlets returned to winning ways following their 3-0 victory over Gideon Starlets in an FKF Women Premier League (WPL) match played on Sunday ,11 January at the Comboni Polytechnic Grounds in Gilgil from noon.

Goals from Rebecca Musango, Centrine Ngasi and Major Mercyline were enough to grant the Gilgil-based side three points.

As it has been observed in previous home matches of the current season, Trinity began the encounter on a high, launching dangerous attacks, from the first whistle, and threatening through Elizabeth Muteshi and Musango.

The hosts got a reward for their early efforts in the third minute, with Musango slotting home from a short corner that Gideon had failed to clear.

Trinity intensified their attacks after the goal, but could only create half chances.

The visitors settled in the match and had a spell in possesion leading to the 25th minute, with goal attempts from Vivian Otieno giving the backline work to do.

Trinity had an opportunity to double their lead in the 27th minute but Major Mercyline’s strike narrowly missed the target and went wide off the left post.

In the 35th minute, Trinity had back-to-back chances, but Fabrish Ayako and Eglay Mukwana’s saw their strikes saved by Abigael Masafu in the Gideon Starlets’ goal.

Marceline Wafula came close to equalising for Gideon, in the dying moments of the first half, but the Trinity defence was equal to the task, protecting the lead to the half time breather.

Second half

Centrine Ngasi rose the highest to head a beautifully laid cross past Masafu to double her team’s advantage moments after restart.

Trinity could have increased their tally at the hour mark but Ngasi’s header from Muteshi's corner went wide.

Gideon’s first chance of the half came a minute later when Mary Atieno took a long range strike from a free kick, but it was not enough to trouble Juliet Adhiambo who made a comfortable save.

Gideon came closest to scoring in the 65th minute when Vivian Otieno broke from the left flank, before making way to the box where she unleashed a shot that went narrowly over the bar with Adhiambo well beaten.

Mukwana wasted a golden opportunity to score Trinity's third when Masafu misplaced her pass in a bid to have quick restart.

The second ball fell to Mukwana who delayed to pull the trigger only for the chance to slip away.

Vivian once again knocked hard on the Trinity door when she hit the crossbar in the 80th minute from a free kick on the left side.

Both teams pushed for another goal but it was Trinity who found it in stoppage time.

Mercyline slotted home into an empty net to ensure the home side secured a 3-0 win.

With the win, Trinity managed to soothe the agony of the 8-0 loss they suffered against Police Bullets in their last match.
