Trinity face Kayole Starlets in top of table clash in packed WPL Saturday schedule

Elsewhere in Kisumu, defending champions Police Bullets face Vihiga Queens

The FKF Women Premier League (WPL) returns with match-week nine that will see four matches take place today, Saturday 13 December, highlighted by the top of the table clash between Trinity Starlets and Kayole Starlets.

Ahead of today's matches, Trinity are on top of the league table with 17 points, one more than second placed Kayole Starlets, with defending champions Kenya Police Bullets closing the top three with 15 points.

Lakeside city of Kisumu duo of Kisumu All Starlets and Kisped Queens sit at the bottom of the league with a point apiece, and are joined in the relegation zone by Kibera Soccer Women on eight points.

Trinity had set a target of 22 points in the first leg, and look set to surpass it courtesy of their strong start to the season.

Coach Sylvanous Wesonga will be out to test his charges’ title charges with the clash against the high-flying Kayole Starlets at the Comboni Polytechnic Grounds from 1300 hrs.

Kayole assistant coach Vincent Ngesa is banking on his defense to solidify the team as they seek a chance to bury the game.

“We were very solid in defense in our last match. We defended superbly against a tough opposition and we hope to continue that way,” said the former Nzoia United captain.

On his side's approach that has yielded results so far in their maiden season, Ngesa revealed the secret.

"We train our players to play at elite levels, where 90% of the match is under pressure, and so our training is based on how well they can deal with pressure,” he added.

Vihiga Queens vs Police Bullets

In yet another big match, Vihiga Queens will play host to Kenya Police Bullets at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu from 1300 hrs.

The two giants head into the match on the back of losses; Vihiga away to Kayole Starlets, while the law enforcers were gunned down by Ulinzi Starlets.

The loss was Police’s first this season and in the David Bujego era, and they will be seeking to bounce back and keep pace with the other title contenders.

Vihiga, on the other hand, started the season on a high, but a three match-winless streak sees them drop to sixth with 11 points.

At the Raila Odinga Stadium, league newbies Gideon Starlets welcome military side Ulinzi Starlets from 1500 hrs.

In the other match of the day, seventh placed Bungoma Queens face off with Kibera Soccer Women, who are in the relegation zone. at the Bungoma National Polytechnic Grounds from 1300 hrs.
