Transition Committee set August 27th for start to next FKF Premier League season

The Kenya Women Premier League on the other hand will begin in September 3.

Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee has confirmed that the 2022-2023 Kenyan Premier League season will commence on 27 of August, two months after last season’s campaign that saw Tusker FC lift the title.

According to leagues and competitions Chairman Ali Amour, it’s all systems go for the top tier which returns under the tutelage of interim management team led by Major General (Retired) Maurice Oyugi.

Preparations are almost compete for the league kick off later next month. We are currently organising a conference meeting of all KPL clubs where we will lay on table our plans and strategies to make the top tier one of the best leagues in Africa.This is one of our top priorities as Transition to leave in place a proper structure geared towards development of our soccer” he told the Transition Commitee's media.

It however remains to be seen whether clubs will be willing to participate in a competition that is not recognized by CAF and FIFA.

The Kenya Women Premier League on the other hand will begin in September 3 as title holders Vihiga Queens seeks to continue with their glittering show even though they expect competition from their closest challengers Ulinzi Starlets.

The CAF Women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers champions garnered 60 points last season to pocket one million Kenyan shillings courtesy of the Transition Committee on top of the trophy they were awarded during the coronation at Mumboha Grounds.

After winning the title in the previous season, the Brewers under coach Robert Matano overcame the Western -based club Kakamega Homeboys who missed out on the title for the second time, despite leading the log for the better part of the season.

Teams have already hit the pre-season campaign with former premier league giants AFC Leopards on Sunday beat Nzoia Sugar 8-7 through penalty shootouts to win the inaugural Elijah Lidonde Memorial Cup at Bukhungu Stadium in readiness for the upcoming season.

The record premier league champions Gor Mahia on Tuesday unveiled Betafriq as their main sponsors after struggling last season to make ends meet as players boycotted training sessions and missed a number of top-flight matches.

This is a warning to other clubs we are coming back for our trophy and our aim is to finish top of the league,” noted club chairman Ambrose Rachier.

Last season, they managed a third-place finish after accumulating 58 points from 34 matches, while rivals Tusker were crowned on goal difference after garnering 66 points.
