Transfer guru in talks with Arsenal over a consultant role?

Luis Campos found some of the most popular players like Mbappe of Bernardo Silva

Big changes are on the horizon for Arsenal. The first will occur at the start of the season, when the Gunners will focus only on the Premier League, after they failed to qualify for any European competition for the first time in 25 years. The other one will be a big team rebuilt, with the wheels already in motion, but the third one could define Arsenal’s future business and transfer dealings. The North London club wants to rebuilt and extend their recruitment team, but how will it be done is a subject of speculation from the British and French media.

The first one, and the one most appealing to Arsenal’s fans is that sporting director Edu is in negotiations with the famous Luis Campos over a consultant role. The Portuguese is a well proven genius when it comes to finding talented, cheap players like Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Radamel Falcao or Benjamin Mendy. Campos worked with Mourinho while the Special One was the manager in Real, and he also assembled title winning Monaco and Lille teams. Campos left his role with Lille in December 2020 and has been linked with a number of clubs, with reports in France suggesting Arsenal and Real Madrid (again) were both interested.

Always reliable DMC Sports were reporting about this, stating that Campos would only be a consultant to Edu and his scouting team, not dangerous the Brazilian in any way. And Arsenal fans will remember that it was Campos who sold them Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel for a combined fee of 15 billion, while he only paid them around 1.5 billion a few years back.

The other option, as per football.london is that Campos is out of the equation and that Edu wants to expand his recruitment team, with an idea of a group of people working together. Arsenal dismantled their scouting network last summer, but recently appointed a headhunting company to recruit new scouts in Germany, France, Spain and the UK.

I want to work with StatDNA a lot more, which we have internally here at the club and is very important. The people I want to work with, I want them to be very close to me. I want to create a group of people working together. I don’t want individual people working in one area or for one country. I want a group working together. Less people with much more responsibilities. That is my vision and for me in this process the most important thing is that everyone is very clear on the responsibilities which everyone has to make the right decision” said Edu in September 2020.

One thing is for sure: the word „change“ is on everybody’s lips at the Emirates stadium.
