The now former Liverpool player will be a significant addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, especially considering his performances in the recently concluded season

He was determined to find a club before the World Cup — and he succeeded. Andrew Robertson will lead Scotland at the World Cup in North America as a Tottenham player!

The idea had been around for quite some time, and now it is close to becoming reality. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement with the 32-year-old left-back, who is expected to sign his contract with Spurs in the coming days.

Tottenham have been keen on Robertson for a while. They already tried to sign him in January for a symbolic fee, but Liverpool did not want to let him go in the middle of a season in which they had plenty of problems. However, once the winter transfer window closed, the Scot was free to negotiate with other clubs, and Tottenham did not want to waste any time.

Neither did Robertson, who made it clear a month and a half ago that he did not want to live in uncertainty.

“It’s not like I rejected a contract or anything like that — there simply wasn’t one on the table. It was a conversation we all had together. I said: ‘Okay, this is what I want. I want to play, and I believe I can still play.’ I think I proved that this season. I’ll try to sort out my future as soon as possible. I don’t want to go into the World Cup with something hanging over my head,” Robertson said in mid-April.

Others also realized he still has plenty to offer. Not only Tottenham, but also Juventus, who tried in recent days to hijack the deal. But Robertson had already reached a preliminary agreement with the London side in the first half of April that he would join the club after the season if they preserved their Premier League status. Which they ultimately did. And since Roberto De Zerbi approved his arrival, Andy had no intention of going back on his word.
