There is growing speculation about the famous German’s return to the Royal Club, and Kroos himself has added fuel to the rumours
Could Toni Kroos be heading back to Real Madrid in a stunning twist? The former Germany international has now addressed the growing speculation.
Speaking on his podcast “Einfach mal Luppen”, the 36-year-old chose not to fuel the rumours, offering a brief response: “I don’t want to say anything about that.” When his brother and co-host Felix—who had already been fending off questions for days—pushed him further, Kroos responded dryly, “That’s the answer you can keep giving.”

According to Spanish outlet AS, the 2014 World Cup winner is close to rejoining Real Madrid, this time in a role within the club’s sporting hierarchy. While no official position has been confirmed, discussions are reportedly centered around a newly introduced sporting director role.
Kroos called time on his playing career in 2024 after a decade in Madrid, a period in which he collected five Champions League titles and four La Liga trophies.
However, the club’s trajectory since then has been far from convincing. Over the past two seasons, expectations have not been met, and this campaign has only deepened the concerns. It began with the departure of former Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, and although Alvaro Arbeloa stepped in, results failed to improve.

"I wasn't surprised by what happened in that game, even though Bayern put on an excellent performance, but what happened after taking a 2-0 lead was the most striking aspect mentally."

Real Madrid are already out of the domestic cup, trail league leaders FC Barcelona by nine points with just seven matches remaining, and were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals after defeats to Bayern Munich (1–2, 3–4). For a club of their stature, a season without silverware now appears almost certain.
Arbeloa’s future also seems uncertain. The Athletic considers a summer departure “very likely,” and following the loss at the Allianz Arena, the Spaniard stated he would “respect every decision” made by the club.
