To appoint the Crazy One, you have to be crazier than him - Bielsa officially in the Uruguayan dugout

Marcelo Bielsa becomes the new boss of the national side comprised of likes such as Darwin Nunez, Fede Valverde and Ronald Araujo

Cynics would say this is a match made in heaven since Uruguay are desperately eager to get some results, and Marcelo Bielsa is a tactician that provides you with anything but results.

The 67-year-old Argentine is known for his one-of-a-kind approach and specific style that fans find attractive and close to their football philosophy. However, the lack of trophies and major achievements in his CV, along with that notorious 2002 FIFA World Cup flop with Argentina, don't say much in favour of appointing Bielsa.

Yet, the country's FA (AUF) announced signing a contract with Bielsa until 2026, according to media reports.

The Argentine takes over following the exit of Diego Alonso after Uruguay failed to reach the World Cup knockout stages.

"The fans are calling for games and emotions. The time has come," read a message on the team's official Twitter account, which also confirmed Bielsa's appointment.

Marcelo, who is expected to be presented at a press conference on Wednesday, returns to coaching following his departure from Leeds in February 2022. Bielsa led Leeds into the Premier League after a 16-year absence.

Bielsa's tenure will begin with two home friendlies against Nicaragua and Cuba next month.
