The legendary Spaniard will begin his coaching career in Saudi Arabia
Andres Iniesta has officially begun life on the touchline, taking his first coaching role with UAE second-division outfit Gulf United.
The legendary former Barcelona and Spain midfielder called time on his illustrious playing career in 2024 after a spell with Emirates Club FC. Having already secured the coaching qualification required for the second tier, Iniesta is now working toward obtaining his Pro Licence, a process confirmed by Gulf United following the announcement of his arrival.
Speaking about his decision, the 2010 World Cup winner said: "Gulf United FC feels like the perfect place to begin this new chapter. Football has given me everything, and now I want to give something back through coaching, through learning and through daily work with young players who have the hunger and the talent to go far."
The move appears to be a natural fit for both parties. Gulf United has built a reputation for nurturing young talent, a philosophy that closely matches Iniesta's own vision for player development.
Explaining his approach, the Spaniard stated: "I believe in developing footballers the right way: with patience, with a clear idea of how the game should be played and with genuine care for each individual. Gulf United shares that philosophy, and that is why I am here."
He also outlined his personal ambitions for the next stage of his football journey, saying: "I want to grow as a coach, gain real experience and earn my Pro Licence."
Few players in football history boast a résumé as impressive as Iniesta's. A product of Barcelona's famed La Masia academy, he developed into one of the defining midfielders of his generation, making 674 appearances for the Catalan club.
His trophy haul at Barcelona included nine La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns, cementing his status as one of the greatest players ever to wear the Blaugrana shirt.

He was a central figure in Spain's golden era, helping La Roja win three consecutive major international tournaments. European Championship triumphs in 2008 and 2012 were sandwiched around Spain's historic World Cup victory in 2010, where Iniesta etched his name into football folklore by scoring the winning goal against the Netherlands in the final.
Following his departure from Barcelona, Iniesta continued his career in Japan with Vissel Kobe before spending his final playing years in the United Arab Emirates with Emirates Club FC. Now, a new challenge awaits as he begins building his reputation from the dugout.
