Tusker's loss to Nzoia Sugar meant Gor Mahia opened a two point gap following their victory over Kenya Police.

The Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) round of 26 fixtures concluded over the weekend with only eight games now left before the 2022-23 season is over and done with, yet, the biggest question still remains, who wins the title?

In the bottom half of the table, the battle for survival took a little spin after Wazito FC won their only third game of the season after beating Ulinzi Stars 1-0, while Mathare United lost to Posta Rangers 2-0. Wazito ended a 19-game winless streak, bringing joy to Got Alila.

The middle of the pack is increasingly getting crowded with Bandari FC, Kakamega Homeboyz, AFC Leopards, Ulinzi Stars, Kariobangi Sharks and Posta Rangers all jostling for space, but their inconsistency won't allow them to grab some fresh air.

It is a week that saw the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) come down heavily on AFC Leopards over crowd trouble, a move the Ingwe nation is still unhappy with.

It's not over until the proverbial fat lady sings

Tusker headed into the week boisterous having dislodged Gor Mahia from the top of the table during the midweek with a 2-0 win over Wazito.

Listening to coach Robert Matano, they smelled blood, and it was time to pounce and possibly run away with the league, but that short lived feeling was put to check by resilient Nzoia Sugar FC, who handed them a painful 1-0 loss in Bungoma.

As the Brewers suffered at the dreaded Sudi Stadium, Gor Mahia were arresting a star-studded Police FC at Kasarani. A lone goal by Austine Odhiambo saw K'Ogalo pick all the points on offer and reclaim the top spot with a two-point cushion.

Despite Nzoia Sugar still giving chase at position three, five points off leaders Gor Mahia, the battle for the coveted gong is increasingly becoming a two-horse race between Gor Mahia and Tusker. The fact that two belligerents are yet to face off in the second leg only spices things up.

Got Alila was hurting

It was a sight to behold as Wazito FC fans led by the team's owner Moses Adagala burst into song and dance after beating Ulinzi Stars 1-0 to put to a close their winless misery.

To undercover how badly Wazito needed the win, the organizers of the match even included a praise and worship team from JICC - Muhoroni, who provided spiritual nourishment in between the halves.

Prior to the Saturday game played under chilly conditions at Muhoroni Stadium, Wazito had played 19 fixtures without a win. The former moneybags last tasted victory on Valentine's Day when they beat AFC Leopards 1-0.

For coach Charles Odero, who joined the club in late February, it was his first win in charge, having presided over 10 games previously, with 7 losses and three draws.

Defense is king

Kariobangi Sharks remains the best scoring team in the league with 41 goals netted so far. Only leaders Gor Mahia come closer with a goal less. Yet, while K'Ogalo are gunning for the title, the Slum Boys are adding numbers at position 11.

Of the mid table teams, Sharks have conceded the most number of goals (9). The team lost to relegation threatened Nairobi City Stars 2-1. Again, they managed to score, a fourth goal in five matches, but conceded more. It goes without saying that defense is king.
