The Bavarians weren't as efficient as usual, but still managed to brush aside Red Bull Leipzig 2-0, behind Harry Kane and Luis Diaz's goals

Believe it or not, Bayern Munich won their last DFB Pokal (German Cup) trophy six years ago. Since then, they haven't even reached the semi-finals - in five consecutive editions! However, this season is different, as the Bavarians have eyed the Cup silverware, and when they set their sights on something, hardly anyone can stop them.

Last night, Red Bull Leipzig tried, but it didn't end well. Even though the visitors shocked the packed Allianz Arena after only four minutes when Christoph Baumgartner broke the deadlock, the Austrian's goal did not stand for offside, and the opening half ended in a goalless draw.

After the break, Bayern did not shine either, but a three-minute blitzkrieg directed by Harry Kane and Luis Diaz sealed the deal for Vincent Kompany's team.

In the 64th minute, Josip Stanisic rushed into Leipzig's box, and the visitors' custodian, Maarten Vandevoordt, took him down, conceding a penalty which the Englishman sent home, scoring his 34th season goal.

Three minutes later, it was all over for the Bulls, as Bayern's Colombian doubled their lead after a quick action and Michael Olise's fantastic pass.

This is the closest the Bavarians have come to the Cup trophy since the 2019/2020 season, and they don't intend to fail again. The draw for the semi-finals has yet to be held, and the three remaining sides in the competition, apart from the Munich club, are Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg, and the reigning champions, Stuttgart.
