Spurs' boss wouldn't relinquish his attacking style despite being left with nine men on the pitch
Spurs and Chelsea are gifts that keep on giving - and we, the neutrals, can sit back and enjoy the many storylines we've been handed on Monday night. First of all, if you've missed the Premier League encounter - you should find a way to watch it as soon as possible. It's worth it. And why? Not just because of the five goals scored, the two red cards, the many VAR reviews that kept raising the tension around the monumental stadium in north London - but because of the people who were a part of it. Real people, and not just professional footballers and coaches. It was pure action.
One of the reasons we got the show we got is that the home team's tactician, Ange Postecouglu, didn't give up on his principles despite the two red cards shown to his players. He insisted on the key aspects of his play style - even though it reduced his chances of staying unbeaten. Rather than drastically reshuffling and reorganising in response to Chelsea's two-man advantage, the Australian opted to maintain a high defensive line, which successfully limited Mauricio Pochettino's side's opportunities to exploit the gaps.
Postecoglou hailed his team's resilience after the game and stressed Tottenham won't change their approach while he is in charge.
"It's just who we are and who we are going to be as long as I am here. We go down to five men, mate, and we will change. We were very close to getting that equaliser, and that shows the spirit and character. I have been watching football for almost 40 years, and as a neutral, I would say one of the most enjoyable games I have seen. It was absolutely Hollywood-like, and that is why the Premier League is the best in the world."
“At some point, we’ve got to accept the referee’s decision.”

It was a night of chaos, drama, and madness at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the Spurs faced Chelsea. This was Postecoglou's first defeat in English football, and it was a night to remember. The evening began in a civilised manner, with mutual respect between former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, now with Chelsea, and the home fans. However, the calm quickly gave way to a storm of events.
The Spurs took an early lead after Dejan Kulusevski's shot deflected off Levi Colwill's back. That's pretty much all characteristics of an average football match ended. Chelsea almost equalised when Nicolas Jackson's shot was brilliantly saved by Vicario. Destiny Udogie was booked for a harsh challenge on Sterling, and the chaos began. There were disallowed goals, numerous VAR checks, and a red card for Romero for a brutal challenge on Enzo Fernandez. Cole Palmer converted the penalty, and the storm continued.
During the first half, Spurs' James Maddison and Micky Van De Ven suffered injuries, and there were 12 minutes of added time. Colwill, too, lost his temper and was booked, then substituted for Marc Cucurella.
The madness didn't stop, and in the second half, Spurs were reduced to nine men after Udogie received his second yellow card. Chelsea missed opportunities from a free-kick and several close-range attempts. With Chelsea's relentless attacks, it was like a battle for life for the Spurs. However, heroic defending and Vicario's saves kept them in the game.
But Chelsea eventually broke through, with Jackson scoring twice to complete his hat-trick and a 4-1 victory. It was a surreal night filled with goals, drama, and unforgettable moments.
This is the sort of game we want to watch all the time.
