Reigning champs were just too wasteful - none of the 19 shots on goal were converted

Stuttgart held firm under relentless pressure from Bayer Leverkusen to secure a goalless draw at the BayArena, although the result extended their winless streak against the hosts to 14 matches.

Leverkusen, aiming to close the gap on league leaders Bayern and Leipzig, started with purpose. Jeremie Frimpong nearly opened the scoring early, testing Alexander Nübel after intercepting a loose ball from Stuttgart’s defense. Frimpong continued to threaten throughout the first half, even finding the net only to have his effort disallowed when the ball was judged to have gone out of play in the buildup.

Edmond Tapsoba also came close to breaking the deadlock, striking the crossbar, while Nübel again came to Stuttgart’s rescue just before halftime, diving to deny Victor Boniface’s header at the back post.

Stuttgart offered little offensively in the first half, failing to register a single attempt on goal. The second half saw little change in momentum, as Boniface struck the post, keeping the score level. Stuttgart’s first real chance came around the hour mark when Deniz Undav received the ball in the box, but his shot went narrowly wide of Lukáš Hrádecky’s goal.

Despite this brief opportunity, Stuttgart struggled to capitalize, and Leverkusen came close to punishing them when Boniface broke through on goal, only for Nübel to again deny him with an outstretched leg. Leverkusen’s persistence couldn’t break through, leaving them potentially seven points adrift of their title rivals by the weekend’s end. Meanwhile, Stuttgart’s draw keeps them outside the top six, with only one win in their last five Bundesliga outings.
