A total of 44 players were nominated by the Awards' committee in the initial list

Thika Queens dominated the inaugural Kenya Women's Premier League (KWPL) Awards gala held by the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) at the Zetech University, Ruiru.

Of the 11 players, Thika Queens took the lion's share of six players, with Vihiga Queens following with two players same as Ulinzi Stars as Zetech Sparks' Rael Kamanda completed the 11.

Neddy Atieno, who recently announced her retirement from football was picked as the best left forward ahead of Rachael Muema and Mercy Airo.

Juliet Andipo, Sheril Angachi, and Rael Kamanda have since decamped their former teams, with Andipo joining Thika Queens, Angachi Ulinzi Starlets, and Kamanda Zetech Sparks.

The 11 players voted for by the KEFWA Committee and league players in a rigorous process since October walked away with gift hampers, personalized trophies, and a cash prize money of Ksh 50,000 each.

Initially, 44 players, four in each position, had been nominated but the list was been trimmed to 33 ahead of the main event.

KEFWA president James Situma was delighted at the event, noting that he is hoping it grows bigger with time.

"This is a dream we have had for a long time and seeing these players get recognized is our joy. We hope that it becomes bigger and we get to those playing in grassroots levels. Women's football is growing and we want to be part of that growth in whatever capacity we are in," Situma said.

Former Harambee Starlets midfielder Tabaka Chacha was also feted, taking home the President's award.
