Olympique Lyonnais announced the return of the Croatian defender
Ligue 1 strugglers announced the signing of their old defender Dejan Lovren on a two-and-a-half-year contract from Russian club Zenit. The Croatian centre-back returns for a second spell with the French giants and is looking forward to playing for the club he played for between 2010 and 2013.
The 33-year-old defender will offer some experience and calmness to a disoriented-looking Laurent Blanc's team.
"I am very happy to return to Lyon. It was the club that opened the doors of international football to me. I will never forget that. I have many memories here, and many links too, especially with President Jean Michel Aulas, who has always supported me. I left Lyon in 2013 with regrets because I felt that I hadn't shown everything. I want to prove to everyone what a player I really am."
Lovren played 102 games for the Groupama Stadium club before setting off to England. After just a season at Southampton, he signed for Liverpool, where he was a member of the team that lifted the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League in 2019.
After a two-year spell with Russian champions Zenit, Lovren returns to France to settle the unfinished business.
