Strasbourg had a chance to play at Parc des Princes, but they pretty much decided against it
Patrick Vieira was a great battler in his playing days. However, as a coach, his teams often go missing. On Saturday night, his Strasbourg side delivered an absolute non-performance at Parc des Princes, as the team from the French capital controlled the proceedings from start to finish.
Prior to this match, PSG had dropped points in four of their eight league games, marking their worst eight-match start to a Ligue 1 campaign since 2014/15. However, within the first ten minutes, Les Parisiens took the lead after Junior Mwanga's forceful challenge led to Kylian Mbappe scoring from the penalty spot. Shortly after, Lebo Mothiba appeared to equalize, but VAR intervened, ruling out the goal for offside. PSG then extended their lead. Strasbourg, who had been under pressure, allowed Mbappe to create space down the right and set up Carlos Soler for an easy tap-in.
Strasbourg couldn't find the back of the net in the first half. An hour into the match, they were struggling, and their track record against top-three teams in the table wasn't encouraging either. Despite their efforts, PSG effectively sealed the game with a third goal in the 77th minute. After patiently probing, Fabian Ruiz displayed exceptional footwork in the area, outmanoeuvring his marker and delicately chipping the ball over Matz Sels for his first goal of the season.
With the victory secured, PSG coasted towards the final whistle, securing their second consecutive league win of the season. Meanwhile, Strasbourg suffered their third consecutive league defeat, with just one win in their last six league games.
It may have been an enjoyable night for Luis Enrique as his team strung hundreds upon hundreds of passes, leaving the visitors totally starved of possession. It's what the Spaniard loves, and it's what the team delivers. However, for the neutrals, watching PSG is a chore.
