The La Liga's penalty killer - it's not Oblak, nor Ter Stegen nor Curtois

The experienced Raul Garcia of Athletic Bilbao approached the penalty spot on Sunday night with confidence and ease. This was his third penalty of the season, with two successful shots from the previous attempts. But against Granada in matchday 26 of the La Liga, it was a different story. Granada's keeper Rui Silva got a hold on the ball and denied Garcia's penalty.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old Portuguese custodian that was not enough for them to grab on to a draw because the stoppage-time goal from Alex Berenguer provided Bilbao with a much-expected victory. However, it mustn't be forgotten that it was the fourth penalty saved by Silva since the start of the season, and the third in 2021. Previously, he was lethal for Atletico Madrid, Eibar and Villareal. That astonishing stats - four out of six saved penalties - makes him the best in the league in that category by far.

According to SofaScore, he has collected seven clean sheets so far this season and has a very high percentage of successful runs out. As per Italian media, Internazionale have made progress on the Silva signing front but face intense competition for the Portuguese shot-stopper’s services. Silva’s contract with Granada is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning Inter can sign him on a free transfer, aside from commission payments to his agents. He would not command a particularly high salary, making a deal feasible for Inter given the club’s current economic difficulties. It is, however, still too early to tell whether Silva could be a long-term replacement for Samir Handanovic, with Inter planning to sign him as a back-up before assessing his ability and potential up close.
