Newcastle United's £70m bid for Hugo Ekitike was rejected this month, but Liverpool have just signed him for an initial £69m, subject to international clearance.

Ekitike has passed a medical and agreed on personal terms and will join Liverpool's pre-season tour of Asia later this week.

As things stand, Frankfurt accepted a deal worth altogether £79m, with £69m guaranteed and £10m in potential add-ons.
Ekitike's transfer is the fourth Liverpool signing in the ongoing transfer window. The Scousers have now spent more than £250m, after paying £116m for Florian Wirtz. In comparison, defenders Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have arrived for a combined £70m.
Liverpool have also shown an interest in the Magpies striker Alexander Isak.
